Most psychology, counselling, and social work training in Australia offers next to nothing on working with people leaving high-control groups and cults; so practitioners end up building their understanding client by client, alone in the room, without a map.
This three-hour orientation hands you that map. Led by RTC co-directors Elise Heerde and Sam Sellers, it covers what this population actually is, why it gets so consistently missed in clinical settings, and what it looks like when it walks into your practice. From there, it moves into the practical: how this history shows up (and gets misdiagnosed), what the therapeutic relationship itself can activate for these clients, where the line sits between advocate and therapist, the ethics specific to this work, and how to sustain yourself doing it for the long haul.
Grounded in real questions practitioners and survivors bring to RTC week after week; this session gives you a working framework for recognising and supporting clients from religious and non-religious high-control environments alike, whether that's a closed church, an MLM, a wellness community built around one unaccountable figure, or a coercive family system.
